Kamila Valieva tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine on December 25 at the Russian championships. However, the result of this doping test was only available following the victory in the Olympic team competition on February 8th.
The Russian anti-doping agency RUSADA lifted the mandatory suspension following an appeal – the International Olympic Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the ISU had taken action once morest it.

The women’s short program here in the live ticker:
Short program women: intermediate status
1. Anastasiia Gubanova (GEO) – 65,40 Punkte
2. Mariah Bell (USA) – 65,38 Punkte
3. Mana Kawabe (JPN) – 62.69 points
12:36 p.m. – Mariah Bell (USA)
Mariah Bell runs to “River Flows in You” by Yurima. But the beginning isn’t really smooth, because she can’t stand the combination. But then she finds her rhythm that suits Axel. The pirouettes are also very clean. In any case, that should be enough for participation in the freestyle. And that’s how it is: With 65.38 points, she is in second place, just behind Gubanova.
12:29 Uhr – Anastasiia Gubanova (GEO)
Anastasiia Gubanova puts a great short program on ice. She starts straight away with a clean jump combination. The double Axel works like all the other elements. The staging is also consistent. This performance is rightly given good marks by judges. 65.40 points – first place for the Georgian!
12:22pm – Natasha McKay (GBR)
Natasha McKay was 17th at the European Championships. The Brit shows a brisk program, but unfortunately with some technical defects. When Rittberger she crashes. After all, it is enough for 52.54 points. Nevertheless, she has to tremble for her participation in the freestyle.
12:16pm – Kailani Craine (AUS)
Kailani Craine shakes his head as the points are awarded. Only 49.93 points for the Australian. But these are legitimate. She completely misses her first element, which earns her no points at all. The rest of her performance isn’t very convincing either. She gets 22.78 points for the elements. Overall, she comes to 49.93. Sixth place only.
12:05 pm – Second group introduce themselves
The second group introduce themselves on the ice. Running soon are Kailani Craine (Australia), Natasha McKay (UK), Anastasiia Gubanova (Georgia), Mariah Bell (USA), Madeline Shizas (Canada) and Zhu Yi (China). Incidentally, it is Nicole Schott’s turn in the third group.
11:48 – Josefin Taljegard (SWE)
Josefin Taljegard closes the first group. The Swede shows a standard program. She dances this solidly. She doesn’t make a mistake, but of course that’s not enough for the very front either. She gets 26.11 points for the elements and 28.40 for the presentation. Takes a total of 54.51 points. That’s only enough for fifth place. Since she has to tremble to qualify for the final.
11:40 AM – Lindsay van Zundert (NED)
Lindsay van Zundert is visibly relieved. At the European Championships she was only 27. This time things are going much better. She suits the Rittberger, all the other elements fit too. She gets 32.12 points for that. However, the presentation only gets a score of 27.12. Gives an overall score of 59.24. Third place at the moment. That should be enough for the final.
11:34 am – Mana Kawabe (JPN)
Not a good start from Mana Kawabe, like Shabotova she can’t stand the triple axel. She brings all the other elements onto the ice well. She gets very good marks for the combination of triple lutz and triple toeloop. In the end, she has a total of 62.69 points. rank one!
11:28 AM – Olga Mikutina (AUT)
Very good performance by Olga Mikutina. She doesn’t make any mistakes. The pirouettes fit, as do the combinations. The Austrian can rightly be proud of herself. Immediately following her performance she clenches her fist. It takes a long time to get the rating. 61.14 points! That’s a new season best. Nevertheless, she seems a bit disappointed when it comes to scoring. The 18-year-old probably hoped for a little more. But for the first time she takes first place
11:22 Uhr – Jenni Saarinen (FIN)
Jenni Saarinnen runs to the figure skating classic “Clair de lune” by Claude Debussy. She blunders with the triple Salchow, because she only shows him in duplicate. This will result in heavy deductions. She succeeds in the double axel. Since she gets good grades for her program components, she puts herself ahead of Shabotova with 56.97 points.
11:15 am – Anastasiia Shabotova (UKR)
Anastasiia Shabotova botches the triple axel. Otherwise not everything works. Overall, she takes a greater risk than her appearance in the team competition. However, that doesn’t really add up. This should make it difficult for her to qualify for the final. Only 48.68 points for the 16-year-old.
11:08 – Anastasiia Shabotova (UKR) opens
Anastasiia Shabotova opens the short program at Capital Indoor Stadium.
INFO – 30 starters in the short program
A total of 30 athletes compete in today’s short program. As an exception, this time 25 runners instead of 24 qualify for the freestyle. This is to prevent Kamila Valieva from taking a place away from another athlete in case they are subsequently banned. Among the 30 today, Nicole Schott, is a German.
INFO – The favourites
In addition to Kamila Valieva, reigning world champion Anna Shcherbakova (ROC), third place in the World Championships Alexandra Trusova (ROC) and American Karen Chen, fourth place in the World Championships last year in Stockholm, are among the favorites.
