By analyzing his electricity bill, Pierre saw the federal share being multiplied by 4. But it is actually a misinterpretation.
After several weeks of negotiations, the government reached an agreement on energy prices at the beginning of the month. With in particular, to limit the impact for the wallet of the citizen, a rebate of 100 € on the annual invoice and a reduction in VAT, from April.
What was Pierre’s surprise when he analyzed his invoice for the month of January. “By consulting my electricity tariff, I noticed that in January, the federal excise duties had been multiplied by 4.7!he wonders. Indeed, all year 2021 excise duties (Editor’s note: the federal contribution, in reality) were €3.512/MWh. From January 2022, they have risen to €16.456/MWh, as if the increase in tariffs were not already high enough. I find it sneaky to loudly announce a reduction in VAT while on the other side, they are increasing excise duties on the sly.”
