climatologist JP van Ypersele denounces abuses by colleagues and the inertia of the university

I know that the university will react and I can already guess the content of their statement, I might even write the sentences they will say and where they will talk regarding surprise, disapproval, acts contrary to their values, investigation internally and to take action to prevent it from happening once more. But it’s bad faith, they were aware, they let it happen, even if they sometimes claim today that they can’t find any trace of these abuses.

The pattern described by the Professor of Climatology is rather worrying : “Powerful men are protected, victims are invited to peace and quiet, sometimes even to a course, I quote, of learning to control emotions. But there are rarely any punishments worthy of the name. For example, the man who forced a woman to kiss later became dean.Another woman who addressed her testimony to the rector was answered “Should I do something regarding it ? “It’s unbearable. Moreover, this woman left shortly following, like others who did not feel listened to and heard. Instead of punishing the abuser, we prefer to push her away and once more, it’s is rare. Most often, we end up disgusting the victim who ends up stopping his research or his thesis and leaving. It has to stop. Confidential counselors and other bodies have been put in place, but apparently they are not doing their job independently.”
