The series “The Lord of the Rings” is revealed with its first trailer, which is not unanimous

On September 2, 2022, series news will get carried away: the most expensive TV series of all time, “The Rings of Power”, will be broadcast on Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming service.

Although set a very long time (thousands of years) before the adventures of Bilbo (“The Hobbit” saga) and Frodo (“The Lord of the Rings” saga), “The Rings of Power” will remain perfectly anchored in the imagination and the writings of the British writer John RR Tolkien, who had left thousands of notes before his death, some of which were compiled in the book “The Silmarillion”.

If the production had already delivered, drop by drop, a few images, the first trailer for the series took advantage of the strong moment of audience of the Super Bowl, this weekend, to deliver its first trailer, long a minute. The opportunity to discover the ambition of the showrunners, through highly worked images. The aesthetic is reminiscent of that of the most successful video games, which is not necessarily to everyone’s taste. On the Web, some deplore the rendering and are already crying foul.

However, it is difficult to get an idea of what really awaits viewers of this series with a pharaonic budget: 650 million dollars! It is quite simply the most expensive in history.

Regarding the scenario, nothing is said or explained in this trailer. To find out, you have to rely on the pitch revealed a few weeks ago. It is indeed a prequel, the story taking place several millennia before that of the two trilogies screened in the cinema. It will not be a question of a single Ring but of several Rings with very different powers.

Rather than focusing on the One Ring, the one forged by Sauron and driving Gollum crazy, “The Rings of Power” will tell the story of the other rings, distributed to the Elves, Dwarves, and Men.

No Aragorn or Hobbit of the Shire here (but the Eternal Elf Elrond will be fine with the review, as will Galadriel). Discovery in a few months, in eight episodes that will make up this first season. Amazon’s plan is much larger still: it counts on no less than 5 seasons.
