Trail running: A mountain runner is still missing in the Picos de Europa

Carlos Ugidos, mountain runner, is still missing in the Picos de Europa where he lost track this weekend when he was completing a route.

Ugidos, 49 years old, was last seen by the Casetn de Andara. At eight o’clock on Saturday followingnoon, when he did not return home, his relatives informed the Civil Guard since they might not contact him by phone either.

Throughout the past day, the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Section (SEREIM) of the Cangas de Ons Civil Guard carried out searches on foot and by air, with the support of the Potes Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (Greim) and the Principality of Asturias Emergency Service Rescue Group (SEPA). Friends of the runner also met this Sunday in the area to help in the search tasks, which are carried out over an area of ​​25 square kilometers.

Ugidos, a native of Cue and a resident of Llanes, is a mountaineer and a runner with extensive experience in mountain events. Last year he completed La Traveserina, with a tour of the Picos de Europa, in 10 hours and 6 minutes. His best mark in this race was achieved in 2017 with 8 hours and 3 minutes. He also disputed the Great Trail Picos de Europa in 2018.

The search worksuspended at nightfall, resumed this monday although conditioned by bad weather in the area due to wind and snow.
