Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has announced that its users will eventually be able to pay for their rides with cryptocurrency.
But Khosrowshahi made it clear in statements to the American “Bloomberg” agency that “Uber” will take the same approach as “Tesla”, in terms of waiting for changes that will reduce transaction fees, and make it more environmentally friendly.
“Will Uber accept cryptocurrencies in the future?” Khosrowshahi said. Certainly at some point. “When the exchange mechanism becomes less expensive and more environmentally friendly, I think we will lean towards cryptocurrency a little bit more.”
It is noteworthy that other international companies accept cryptocurrencies such as “Bitcoin”, most notably “Microsoft”, “AT&T” and “Wikipedia”.
In contrast, other large companies have been more reluctant to join the cryptocurrency train, with related products such as “non-fungible tokens” being criticized for using huge amounts of energy generated in part by burning fossil fuels.
Billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla was the most famous company to accept cryptocurrency as payment for its electric cars, but it suspended the practice, saying it would only use it once more “as mining turns to more sustainable energy.”
But recently, Tesla, on the other hand, has begun accepting payments in the crypto-currency “Dogecoin” for some of its goods, which Musk considers to be “better suitable for transactions.”
