The most expensive series in history
Scheduled for September 2, the series will take place during the Second Age, at a time when Sauron rises to power and forges the One Ring. ” This epic drama […] will take viewers back to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, and hope hung by a thread and where the greatest villain that ever sprang from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover the whole world in darkness “Explained Amazon Studios in a press release.
Immortality of the elves obliges, several characters of the Lord of the Rings will appear in the program: it is in particular the case of the queen Galadriel (the Swedish Morfydd Clark succeeds Cate Blanchett in the role) or of Elrond (previously interpreted by Hugo Weaving and now embodied by Robert Aramayo, the young Ned Stark of Game of Thrones).
Amazon reportedly spent around $650 million on the first season alone, making it the most expensive series in history. The hyper polished trailer promises its share of epic battles between men, elves, dwarves and other creatures of Middle-earth, while the incredible sets of New Zealand, where Peter Jackson had filmed the saga, are still there. See you in September to see the result.
