Last week, the mayor of Rotterdam denied making a final decision on the landmark, which underwent reforms in 2017.

The city council promised residents not to tamper with the bridge following a 2017 renovation, but Bezos and Ochenko, the Dutch shipbuilder preparing to unveil the yacht, have pledged to foot the bill for the dismantling.

The company, which is building the yacht upriver in the town of Placerdam, said dismantling part of the bridge was the only way for the yacht to sail.
