Luis Hernando de Larramendi, director of Mapfre and vice president of the Mapfre Foundation, dies

The director of Mapfre and vice president of the Mapfre Foundation, Luis Hernando de Larramendi Martinezhas passed away, as reported this Saturday by the insurer in a statement.

The death occurred this Friday in Madrid, as reported by Mapfre.

Luis Hernando de Larramendi was son of Ignacio Hernando de Larramendi, founder of the companyand had been at Mapfre for nearly 30 years, participating in different governing bodies of the entity.

In 1994, he joined Mapfre Mutualidad as director and five years later, in 1999, he was appointed director of Corporación Mapfre.

Later, following the demutualization, he joined the board of Mapfre SA

The president of Mapfre, Antonio Huertas, has said that Luis Hernando de Larramendi was a key adviser in many of the strategic decisions taken by the group throughout their nearly thirty years of association.

Currently, Luis Hernando de Larramendi, in addition to being a member of Mapfre’s Board of Directors, was member of the Delegate Commission and of the Appointments and Remuneration Committee of Mapfredirector of Mapfre Vida since 1998 and second vice president since 2004.

It was also director of Mapfre Internacional since 2007, of Mapfre Spain since 2015 and second vice president of the Board and of the Management Committeeas well as patron of Fundación Mapfre since 2005 and second vice president since 2015, as well as a member of the Foundation’s management committee.

The management team of Mapfre and Fundación Mapfre have sent their condolences to the family of Luis Hernando de Larramendi for his death, and have highlighted his “tireless work to promote the growth of the company and his intense social commitment in all the countries where he has been present”.
