9:09 am: The EU and Belgium also call to leave Ukraine
After the United States and the United Kingdom yesterday, it is Belgium’s turn to call on its nationals to leave the country as soon as possible. “All travel to the entire Ukrainian territory is strongly discouraged,” adds a recommendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “If the situation worsens, an evacuation from Ukraine cannot be guaranteed. It is therefore advisable to leave the country as long as it is still possible”, warns the government.
For its part, the European Union has recommended that non-essential staff of its representation in Kiev leave Ukraine to telework from abroad, said Friday the spokesman for the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell. “We are not evacuating. For now, non-essential staff have the option to telecommute from outside the country,” explained Peter Stano.
