At the head of the American snowboard team since 1994, Peter Foley is the target of serious accusations from Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, one of his former proteges.
Callan Chythlook-Sifsof, who was part of the US snowboard team, accused the team’s coach, Peter Foley, of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior in posts on Instagram on Friday.
According to the Alaskan-born snowboarder, now 32, “Peter Foley has been taking photos of naked female athletes for over 10 years” and made comments of a sexual nature to her and another member of the American Olympic team, in Lake Louise (Canada) in 2014. “I can no longer watch the Olympic Games without saying so publicly,” said the American on the social network.
The United States Ski and Snowboard Federation has told several US media that the relevant bodies are currently analyzing this information. “We take these accusations very seriously and are currently investigating,” a statement said.
According to Chythlook-Sifsof, Hagen Kearney, another member of the American Olympic team present at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, used racist expression once morest him and engaged in acts of harassment. “I won’t be silent on these things any longer,” she said on Instagram. There was widespread bizarre behavior. The people I identified behaved in a toxic way but the truth is that the culture within the team protected this kind of behavior. Things that weren’t normal have become normal. Other athletes engaged in racist and misogynistic behavior and actively participated in the bizarre dynamic that Peter Foley created that resulted in sexual violence once morest female athletes and team members.”
Callan Chythlook-Sifsof was part of the American snowboarding team present at the Olympic Games in Vancouver (Canada) in 2010 and was eliminated in qualifying. Peter Foley has coached the USA Snowboard Team since 1994.
