The film “Aïcha” by Moroccan Zakaria Nouri awarded in Tunis at the Panorama international des court-films festival

The Moroccan film “Aïcha” by Zakaria Nouri won the prize for best direction at the 7th edition of the Panorama international short film festival, held from February 8 to 10 in Tunis.

In Tunis, Moroccan director Zakaria Nouri won the award for best director at the 7e edition of the Panorama international short film festival, for his film Aicha.

According to the director of the festival, Kamal Aouij, the film was awarded for the importance of the theme chosen and the staging techniques used.

The film, in which actress Nisrine Erradi plays the main role, alongside other artists including Najat Skali, Taoufiq Al-Mouini and Raouf Sabahi, tells the story of a girl who tries to cope with the difficulty of life and struggles by all means to support herself and her bedridden mother.

Moroccan cinema in force

The film, which had already won the prize for best film last year at the Mesopotamia short film festival in the Netherlands, had been selected to represent Morocco, Africa and the Middle East in several international festivals, including in Austria, Ireland, Sweden, Greece and Argentina.

Morocco was also represented at this edition by the film Ziad by Yacine Moujahid, said Mr. Aouij in a statement to MAP, recalling that the grand prize of the sixth edition of this festival had been won by the film Ultimate Ink by Moroccan director Yazid El Kadiri.

During this edition, the prizes for best film and documentary were won respectively by An ordinary day by Anes Zawahri (Syria) and Beyrouth following 40 d’Anthony Merchak (Liban).

A special mention was awarded to the film The Sea Bride by Mohamed Ateeq (Bahrain), while the jury prize went to Rainbow by Aleksandar Vujovic (Montenegro).

The official competition of the festival includes the participation of films produced between 2020 and 2021, including fiction and short documentaries representing 14 countries including Morocco.

Created in 2016, the International Panorama Festival of Short Films is an annual cinematographic meeting entirely dedicated to the short film format, which aims to mirror the latest Tunisian, Maghreb, Arab and international film productions.
