(Beijing = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Kyung-yun = Short track men’s national team signboard Hwang Dae-heon (Gangwon Provincial Government) cruised towards the second Olympic gold medal.

Hwang Dae-heon took second place in Group 6 of the men’s 500m short track qualifier at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics held at Capital Indoor Stadium in Beijing, China on the 11th with a time of 40.971.

Hwang Dae-heon, who started the fastest, widened the distance from second place with explosive speed.

However, he gave up an in-course with two laps remaining on the finish line and allowed Abzal Azkhaliev (Kazakhstan) to take the first place.

A dizzying situation occurred when Isak de Rat (Netherlands), who was engaged in a fierce battle, fell on the last lap, but Hwang Dae-heon safely avoided it and crossed the finish line in second place following Azkhaliev.

Hwang Dae-heon won the men’s 1,500m on the 9th.

The youngest member, Jun-seo Lee (Korea National Sports University), who participated in Group 1, unfortunately received a penalty and was eliminated.

Jun-seo Lee, who started from the outermost lane, aimed for a good spot on the out course, but was not successful.

He changed direction and tried to hit the in-course once more, but in the fourth corner of the first lap, he collided with Sebastien Lepaf (France) and fell.

Lee Jun-seo was dismissed following being judged for a foul.

In the men’s 500m short track qualifier, the first and second place runners in each group and the four best skaters out of the third place runners in each group advance to the quarterfinals.
