the “coronadengue” does not exist, warns the National Institute of Health

Given the popularization of the term, the INS came out to clarify that there is no disease with that name.

In the last week, several media outlets and news agencies warned that an Argentine woman had contracted a simultaneous infection of dengue Y coronavirus. The term they used to describe this condition was “coronadengue”which quickly became popular on social networks.

The National Institute of Health of Colombia (INS) came out to specify that there is no disease with that name. “It is normal for a person to have two different infections at the same time,” the entity said in a statement issued on February 10.

And although several media outlets insisted that the Argentine woman’s was the first case of this simultaneous infection, the INS warned that it was a “normal” condition.

“If people don’t take care of themselves using the face mask and also by permanently eliminating mosquito breeding sites, they can perfectly end both infections,” the INS noted.

He noted that he has already documented hundreds of cases of people who have been infected with both viruses. In fact, he documented that in 2020 there were 331 cases of people who contracted dengue and coronavirus at the same time and that in 2021 the figure rose to 2,115 cases. So far in 2022, 76 cases have already been reported.

In addition, he assured that in case of contracting dengue it is better not to self-medicate, drink plenty of fluids and go to the doctor as soon as possible. Refering to covid-19 preventioninsisted on keeping closed spaces with ventilation, washing hands frequently, wearing a face mask and getting vaccinated judiciously.
