The history of Al-Hilal and Al-Ahly confrontations before their clash in the Club World Cup

The Saudi clubs Al Hilal and Al-Ahly of Egypt will meet in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup in the UAE on Saturday at Al Nahyan Stadium, to determine the third place in the championship.

The two teams meet following both lost the semi-final match. Al Hilal narrowly defeated Chelsea with a clean goal, scored by Romelu Lukaku in the 32nd minute of the match. Meanwhile, Al-Ahly of Egypt lost to the Brazilian Palmeiras with two clean goals, signed by Rafael Vega in the 39th minute, and Dudu in the 49th minute.

The two teams had started the World Cup from the second league, where Al Hilal overcame Al Jazira (6-1), and Al Ahly defeated Monterrey with a clean goal.

The confrontation of Al-Hilal and Al-Ahly will be the eighth match between Arab clubs in the Club World Cup, and the first between the two teams in the history of their participation in the World Cup.

Al-Hilal is looking for the bronze medal in the Club World Cup for the first time in its history, while Al-Ahly aspires to repeat the achievement for the third time in its history, following having already tasted the taste of occupying third place in 2006 and 2021.

Throughout their history, Al-Ahly of Egypt and Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia met in 6 matches in different competitions, and Al-Ahly won two matches, compared to one victory for Al-Hilal, while the other 3 matches were tied.

The last match between the two teams dates back to 2014 in Cairo, drawing the role of the Arab Championship groups, and it ended in a goalless draw.

The first matches of the two teams in 1989 in the qualifiers for the Arab Club Championship were the champions of the cup, and it ended in a 1-1 draw. The third tie in the two teams’ matches was in a friendly match that brought them together in Riyadh in 2013, which ended with a goal for the same.

Al-Ahly won its victory over Al-Hilal in 1995 in Riyadh in the Arab Elite Championship with a clean goal, and in 1996 in the semi-finals of the Arab League Champions League with two goals to one.

Al-Hilal achieved its only victory over Al-Ahly with a clean goal in 1998 in the International Friendship Championship.
