These are the finalists for World Car of the Year 2022

We will have to wait until next April 13 to find out, within the framework of the New York International Auto Show, which model is placed this year the crown of World Car of the Year 2022 (World Car of the Year). For now, the 102 journalists from 33 countries that make up the jury have already selected the ten finalist models from among the 28 initial candidates.

The list of the ten models that will compete for the World Car of the Year 2022 award, many of them electrified, is made up of Audi Q4 e-tron, Cupra Formentor, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Genesis G70, Honda Civic, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia EV6, Lexus NX Y Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ. For these cars to be considered contenders for the title, they must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units/year, be priced below that of a luxury car, and be on sale in at least two major markets (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Latin America, USA) and two continents between January 1, 2021 and March 30, 2022.

World electric car

This year, in addition, a new category begins, World Electric Vehicle of the Year, which aims to recognize the drive of electric cars and the efforts of manufacturers to develop increasingly ecological models. In this category, the Audi e-tron GT, BMW iX, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Mercedes-Benz EQS compete for the award.

Urban, Luxury, Performance, Design

The jury also chooses the best models in the world by segments. This year, Dacia Sandero, Opel Mokka, Renault Kiger, Toyota Yaris Cross and Volkswagen Taigun are opting for World Urban Car. The five World Luxury Car finalists are Audi Q5 Sportback, BMW iX, Genesis GV70, Mercedes-Benz EQS and Volvo C40 Recharge.

And the list of World Performance Car finalists is made up of Audi e-tron GT, BMW M3/M4, Porsche 911 GT3, Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRZ and Volkswagen Golf GTI/R.

In addition, an international jury made up of design experts chooses the World Car Design of the Year, an award in which this year the finalists are Audi e-tron GT, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Mercedes-Benz EQS. .
