Festival Soundcloud, which will be held on 15, 16 and 17 July in Tudela, has just announced its poster composed entirely of women. In this way, it becomes the first large-format festival that bets on a poster one hundred percent of female artists “to make visible, recognize and extol their indisputable musical quality within a scene that still accuses a great inequality”, say its organizers. “His role in this industry is transversal and therefore his place should be at the forefront of posters or as emerging artists to discover, which everyone will talk regarding tomorrow.”

Amelia and Rozalen they lead this new edition of Ribera Sound. The Navarra artist will present live her imminent new album of which she has already advanced themes such as’ Yo Invito ‘or’ Yamaguchi’, and she says she is “very happy that there is a music festival where only women act and that it is in Navarra and that I will be in it”.

For her part, Rozalén, recently awarded the National Prize for Current Music, will review her extensive career, including her acclaimed latest work ‘El Árbol y el Bosque’. “The presence of women at festivals is important to compensate for the negative discrimination suffered by women throughout history. That’s why we need them to encourage the percentage to be more equal. It is a tremendous pride to be part of a festival composed entirely of women,” says the artist from Albacete.

They will be accompanied on stage by the pop staff of Mr. Liuhuabing, who will also release her new album this year; the Chilean-French singer, rapper and songwriter Anna Tijoux with his hip hop fusion of vindictive and fighter character; the promise of Argentine rap Sofia Gabanna, sister of Hurricane Nathy Peluso who mixes R & B, denbow, boom bap and even the classic rap of the 90s; the indie-pop without borders of ANGELINA, duo formed by Ana and Carol who swept away their single ‘Me Sabe Mal’ following triumphing in the editions of X Factor Italy and Spain; the delicious spontaneity of Startle Girl, alter ego of Maialen that reached No. 1 with the release of her recent ‘Synapse’; the young producer and experimental pop artist Mary Blaya, which has emerged with singles such as ‘De Mi Para Ti’ or ‘Como Arde’; the Catalan rapper Miss Raisa, which stands up with rhymes to discrimination for being a woman, immigrant and Muslim; the self-taught artist Paula Mattheus, whose career has been unstoppable since the release of her first EP, ‘Veintitantas Primaveras’ ; the singer-songwriter from Navarra Mr. Liuhuabingwhich reaches the heart with its pure musical honesty; and the talent and delicacy of Anne Lukin, which surprised by his youth with the depth of his debut ‘The next day’.

All of them will be the soul of an event that stands out from the rest of festivals offering a diverse, rich and honest proposal with its purpose that the public can enjoy the live of artists with a message that goes beyond music. The Ribera Sound line-up is completed by several of the DJs and producers of reference in the circuit, among which we find a AWWZ, Cristina Casado, DREA, HITO, NIKKA, XUNE and Zaira Sánchez. Avant-garde, future and transformative minds that find in music their language to tell everything they carry inside. “We must fight once morest the situation of inequality that prevails in the music industry. There has been some progress in recent years, but much remains to be done. This is a project that we had in mind for a long time as a result of the frustration we were faced with due to the difficulty that can be involved in equating male and female names on posters,” says Mario Cornago, director of Ribera Sound.

It also highlights the impulse of Ribera Sound for the talent of closeness. With a 50 percent percentage of Navarran artists, the festival aims to support the growth of the community’s solid music scene. Ribera Sound festival tickets will go on sale this Friday, February 11 at 12:00 through its website, www.riberasound.com.

The presence of women in the Spanish ‘festivaleo’

According to the association MIM (Women in the Music Industry), in 2017 just over 11 percent of the festival line-up was made up of women. The following season, in 2018, there was a slight improvement (of only 2 points), and the count fell far short of the expectations that the association had predicted. On a positive note, the number of festivals with a female presence below 10 per cent increased from 11 to 6. Although, as a counterpart, 5 of these 6 did not reach 5 percent(among them: Sansan, Rock Fest or Viñarock).

In 2019, the last year that festivals might be held before the pandemic, there was an average of 19.17 percent representation of women on posters, which represented an increase of 6 points from last year, and 8 points compared to 2017.
