News game Dark Souls: Players will have to arm themselves with patience for the return of the servers!
At the end of January, players of Dark Souls on PC had the impression that history was repeating itself. Indeed, a new flaw had then been detected in the game’s netcode, with potentially disastrous consequences. And with the upcoming arrival of Elden Ring, concern was mounting.
This concern, which had been highlighted in particular by a person whose nickname is Skelemann, would eventually allow hackers to infiltrate users’ PCs, collect their personal information, install spyware and even control a PC remotely. The fault had been spotted quite a while ago, but no major incidents had been identified.
Elden Ring and its launch are top priorities
However, faced with the lack of reaction from From Software, a hacker has designed a hack displaying a warning message to some streamer Dark Souls III for the purpose of attracting attention, and not to take advantage of it to steal data. The method is questionable, but it worked, since From Software quickly announced that the PvP servers of Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls II Dark Souls III had been taken offline until further notice.
Two weeks from the release ofElden Ring, the problem has still not been solved, and players will have to wait a little longer. Among the good news, we note that the origin of the flaw has been found, and a patch is being designed, but the servers will not be restarted until the end of the Elden Ring launch window. The investigation around the concern has been extended to the netcode of Elden Ring, and it is this title that grabs all the attention, the studio wishing to launch the title with the best possible security measures.
Bandai Namco and FormSoftware are aware of technical issues experienced by players on the PC versions of Dark Souls games. We want to thank the entire Dark Souls community and as well as the players who have expressed their concerns to us and those who have offered solutions (the Blue Sentinel mod, editor’s note). Thanks to you, we have identified the cause and are working to repair the flaw.
In addition, we have extended our investigation to Elden Ring (…) and we made sure that the necessary security measures are in place on all platforms. Due to the time required to set up effective test environments, the Dark Souls series online services will not be reactivated until the end of the Elden Ring launch. We will do everything possible to get these services back as soon as possible. We will make an announcement when we have defined the schedule for the return of online services. (…).
