An asteroid 150 meters in diameter is approaching Earth

A celestial body with a diameter of 150 meters is approaching planet Earth on the eighth of this month.

Asteroid 2007 UY1 (Apophis) will be close to Earth, just over five million kilometers from the planet, regarding 14 times the distance from Earth to the Moon, according to NASA data.

2007 UY1 belongs to the Aton group of asteroids, whose orbit intersects with Earth’s orbit from the inside.

This asteroid 2007 UY1 was first discovered in 2007. It is not considered dangerous. According to current calculations, the theoretical probability that it might hit the Earth one day is very small. According to the forecasts of VNII GOChS, in the spring of 2029, the asteroid Apophis will approach Earth at a very close distance, comparable to the height of the orbits of geostationary satellites.

The Russian space agency, Roscosmos, assessed the possibility of it colliding with Earth as “very, very small.”
