The return of ‘Rasta Rockett’: Jamaica’s bobsled team sets the mood with a wild dance (video)

Jamaica is present at the Olympic Winter Games for the first time in its history in three bobsleigh events in Beijing. The kick-off of the event took place this Friday followingnoon in the “Bird’s Nest”, the stadium of the Chinese capital.

Jamaica made history at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada, by participating for the first time in the bobsleigh events, in the two-man (30th) and four-man (retired) events.

The country has since taken part in the bobsleigh events at the Olympics on several occasions, in men’s and women’s two-man bobsleigh, but we had to go back to 1998 to find traces of a Jamaican crew in the four-man bob, the premier category. The male quartet and their improbable dream of Olympic glory in Calgary then inspired the film “Rasta Rockett” and met with great popular success.

Very happy to be present at the Games, the Jamaican quartet treated themselves to a little dance on the doorstep of their room, in the Olympic village. Good humor reigns and smiles burst out in the Jamaican team…before giving way to concentration in the coming days.
