the essentials in brief
- The second phase of the booster campaign will no longer be carried out.
- This was decided by the BAG, justified by the rapid spread of the omicron variant.
- The first phase of the booster campaign ends at the end of this week.
From the planned second phase the booster campaign will be nothing. The Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) has decided not to carry out the test and justifies this with the very rapid spread of the omicron variant. The BAG confirmed at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency, a corresponding report from blick.ch on Thursday.
Due to omicron the authority felt compelled to make adjustments in an even shorter time and in a more flexible manner. Therefore, before the start of the second phase of the campaign, it was decided: “It would not be effective in the planned form and should therefore not be carried out.”

The first phase of the campaign ends at the end of the week. At the heart of this was an explanatory video on the BAG website. The FOPH has been using excerpts from this to advertise the booster vaccination on various social media channels since January 19.
Why is the booster vaccination needed?
A short version is currently being created in five other migration languages. This can also be used by these communities, the BAG announced in its response to the request.
According to the latest figures published by the BAG on Thursday, 39.83 percent of the total population have been boosted so far. Furthermore, 74.57 percent of those over the age of 65 received a booster vaccination.
