Magnitude 6.5 earthquake shakes northern Peru and southern Ecuador

(CNN Español) — An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 hit northern Peru and southern Ecuador, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake occurred 51 kilometers northwest of Barranca, Peru, USGS reports, and at a depth of 100.3 kilometers.

As initially reported by the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador, the earthquake was of magnitude 6.8 and occurred 162.21 km from Moyobamba, San Martin.

The Geophysical Institute of Peru reported a magnitude of 6.8.

No injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
