Why did France lift some Corona restrictions despite the high daily injuries?

The French authorities began easing the measures related to Corona, despite the fact that the number of injuries in the country remained at a relatively high level, in compliance with the promises they made following imposing the vaccination certificate that replaced the health passport since late January.

As of today, Wednesday, the muzzle is no longer mandatory in open spaces, and remote work is no longer mandatory, but will become optional and recommended.

All restrictions that were imposed in places with large audiences such as stadiums and cultural centers will be removed.

On February 16, the nightclubs, which have been closed since December 10, will open, and concerts will be allowed in which the audience is standing. Schools will also begin easing their health protocols at the end of the school holiday in February.

These mitigating measures come in conjunction with the country continuing to record a daily heavy toll of infections, but in the opinion of the authorities, lifting the restrictions is justified, especially since the health threat due to the Omicron variable is limited because it is less dangerous than the previous mutations, although it is much more contagious. In addition, there was a slight decrease in infections over seven days, but the number of cases remained at levels not seen in France before the arrival of the Omicron variable at the end of 2021. While the situation appears to be stable in intensive care departments, the number of patients in hospitals remains at a really high level .

In an interview with “Al Arabiya.net”, Jean-Francois Corte, a general physician and supervisor of vaccination operations in Paris, confirmed that these measures come within the strict monitoring of epidemic developments in France, and said: “It is normal for the French authorities to take new measures if they have indications of improvement. The health situation, taking into account psychological, social and political pressure, but also maintaining the basic standards of social distancing, given the development of the epidemic in the first place and not according to other factors.
