Following a failed coup attempt in Guinea-Bissau, the army has already made arrests, announced President Umaro Sissoco Embalo.
“The army is already making arrests,” President Umaro Sissoco Embalo announced at a press conference held Tuesday evening at the presidential palace in Bissau.
The Guinean President also claimed to have escaped “more than a coup attempt”. “It’s an attempt to kill the president of Guinea Bissau,” he told reporters.
Just before his meeting with the media, Embalo announced on social media that he was fine and that the situation in his country was “under government control” following the failed coup attempt.
“I thank the people of Guinea-Bissau and all the people beyond our country who have been concerned for my government and me. Long live the Republic and may God watch over Guinea-Bissau,” he stressed.

Confusion took hold of the capital Bissau in the early followingnoon when heavy gunfire rang out around the presidential palace where President Embalo and members of the government were in the middle of the council of ministers.
