Driss Lachgar was re-elected on Saturday as first secretary of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) for a third term, following the work of the party’s 11th national congress held at the Moulay Rachid Youth Complex. and childhood in Bouznika. Mr. Lachgar was reappointed at the head of the USFP by an absolute majority following obtaining 1158 votes once morest 77 in favor of Tarik Sellam, out of 1235 votes cast (1344 congressmen).
In an address on the occasion, Mr. Lachgar addressed his thanks and expressed his gratitude to the members of the party for their contribution to the success of the National Congress, thus inaugurating a new stage in the process led by the USFP, which was founded as being a collective project aimed at economic and social emancipation.
Through the documents provided and the perceptions formulated, he added, the members of the party have added a new milestone to the foundation of the socialist and democratic project for which the Ittihadies and Ittihadis have campaigned with many sacrifices and as much self-sacrifice. . In addition, the first secretary of the USFP underlined that through its innovative form, adapted to the pandemic situation, this 11th national congress constituted a significant event in the political landscape as well as it returned a true image of the free and serene dialogue between the members of this formation with a view, on the one hand, to “strengthening the Ittihadi renaissance” and, on the other hand, to developing a political vision that meets the aspirations of Moroccans and the challenges of development in the country.
Mr. Lachgar stressed, in this regard, “the party’s determination to contribute to the development of the country with a view to establishing a cohesive society and a productive economy”, reiterating “the clear commitment of the USFP to defend the territorial integrity of the Kingdom which has chained victories thanks to the wise Royal management and the vigilant mobilization of all the components of the Moroccan people”.
During the closing session of the Congress, the conclusions of the discussions of the rapporteurs of the commissions at the level of each regional platform were presented. The final declaration of the congress was also presented and approved. During the inaugural session on Friday, the congressmen had proceeded to the adoption of a draft amendment on the organizational plan of certain provisions of the statutes of the party concerning the mode of organization of the congress, the election of the First Secretary as well as members of the national council, regional secretariats and political bureau, mainly the arrangements for running for a third term in all party structures.
Placed under the sign “Loyalty, commitment and openness”, the 11th Congress of the USFP was held from January 28 to 30 in person and via videoconference through a main platform, 12 other regional as well as three platforms in France, in Italy and Spain allowing no less than 1,400 delegates to follow its work.
