Young wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been selected as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the first ODI once morest the West Indies. KL Rahul will miss the first ODI once morest the West Indies this week due to personal reasons. In his absence, Rishabh is being considered for the post of vice-captain of the team.

Fans say that what former India captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni said earlier is now coming true. Though not officially announced by the Cricket Board, MS Dhoni said in a press conference in 2017 that the wicket-keeper has always been the vice-captain of a team. The wicket-keeper is often responsible for arranging the fielding during a match. Dhoni had said that the wicket-keeper should make the necessary changes in the field following the instructions of the captain.

KL Rahul lost the series once morest South Africa due to his fitness issues. But under Rahul’s leadership, the team looked set to continue to fail.
