Amazon accused of anti-union practices in New York
Several employees of an Amazon warehouse in New York have been trying since last year to create a union there, which would be a first in the United States.

The American agency in charge of labor law (NLRB) has filed a complaint accusing Amazon of trying to dissuade workers at a warehouse in Staten Island, New York, from unionizing.
In a document dated Thursday, the NLRB reports several examples, in May and June 2021, of site managers, security guards or a consultant claiming that a union would be “futile”, treating people leading the ‘thug’ organizing effort, questioning employees regarding their union activities and even confiscating their leaflets. The agency, which was contacted by three different people, wants the group to better inform employees of their rights in terms of unionisation.

The company “has repeatedly broken the law by threatening, surveilling and questioning Staten Island warehouse workers involved in the union drive,” local NLRB official Kathy Drew King said in a message. at AFP. Amazon, for its part, asserts that “these allegations are false”. A hearing before an administrative judge will take place on April 5.
Several employees of the warehouse have been trying since last year to create a union there. After several adventures, the NLRB admitted on Wednesday that they had collected enough signatures to request the organization of a ballot. A hearing is due to take place with both parties on February 16 to discuss its organization.
