Moldiag, launch of the first tuberculosis diagnostic test, 100% Moroccan, developed by MAScIR

After being validated by the Pasteur Institute of Morocco and registered with the Directorate of Medicines and Pharmacy under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, researchers from the MAScIR Foundation have developed a molecular test for the diagnosis of Tuberculosis which has the advantage of being precise and fast delivering results in 30 min.

According to a press release from the Foundation, this MAScIR TB SS-LAMP test coupled with a mobile and connected digital device (Rapid-LoopAmp-12), constitutes a solution that facilitates diagnosis as close as possible to patients at a controlled cost. This solution is in the process of CE labeling.

In Morocco, despite significant progress, tuberculosis remains a significant public health problem. Indeed, in 2020, more than 29,000 new cases of tuberculosis were still detected, which is why the country is committed to achieving sustainable development goals, namely reducing the number of deaths linked to tuberculosis. . This objective will be achieved by strengthening screening and early diagnosis for better care and regular therapeutic monitoring.

In addition, in March 2021, the Ministry of Health announced the launch of the extension of the National Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Strategic Plan 2021-2023. This plan fits perfectly with the WHO global initiative called: “Strategy to end Tuberculosis 2016-2035”.

As a reminder, the arsenal of conventional diagnostic tests, although useful, remain slow and require a delay of up to 8 weeks, something which can lead to late treatment of the patient, not to mention the risk of the spread of contamination that ‘he implies.

For information, the MAScIR Foundation, created in 2007, is a non-profit association that comes under the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. It aims to promote and develop technological research centers in the fields of materials and nanomaterials, biotechnology, microelectronics and life sciences. Its work is oriented towards applied research and innovation to meet market needs.
