Mumbai: Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has questioned whether there is a secret agenda behind former India coach Ravi Shastri’s recent statements. Manjrekar told News18 that the statements made by Shastri regarding some of the players following the coaching post was vacated were not digestible at all.
I am a big fan of Ravi Shastri. He also has respect. I know very well that Ravi Shastri is a man who supports the players and is a great fighter as he has played under him. But I do not know Ravi Shastri following his resignation. Many of the statements he made in public were expected but I did not respond to any of them.
Because I can not show disrespect to him. Many of the statements he makes are not intellectual. Nor is it the assessment of someone who closely observes cricket. But there is an agenda behind it, ”Manjrekar said. Shastri had earlier said in an interview that Virat Kohli might have continued as India’s Test captain for another two years.
With India playing more Tests at home in the next two years, Kohli might have been the Test captain for another two years. Had it continued like that, India would have won most of the Tests. As a Test captain, Kohli might have won 50-60. But Shastri had said that this fact may not be digested by many and that is why Kohli stepped down. Shastri had said that the day Kohli resigned as captain was the saddest day of his life.
