What does it mean to you that your life story is brought to television?

“It is a very big achievement in my life, in my career. To tell a story is to leave a mark, it is to give a testimony of overcoming before Colombia and the world, especially for those people who come perhaps from living the same as I lived, from having gone through forced displacement, who come from fighting once morest thousands of adversity, then that is what I want to be, an example for young women, for children, to instill courage in them. No one told me to be brave, I had to be brave, but I do want my women to be very brave and realize that if God got me out of all these situations, he will do greater things for them.”

How do you feel when reliving so many hard moments of your life?

“I have cried like a cupcake, but I think that has helped me a lot to unburden my soul, to forgive myself, to forgive so many things from the past, to be calmer from this moment on.. I was watching the first chapter and I hadn’t cried, when Caiser comes on, I don’t know why it was so hard for me to see our childhood pet when he tells me that something had happened to my dad, that’s true. The truth is that I cried when I saw him there because we loved him very much, we were very attached to him and when he was killed it hit us very hard and we mourned him as one more member of the family.

How has your relationship been with Mariana Gómez, the actress who plays you?

“Mariana is amazing. It has left me cold, it has left me impressed with how good an actress she is, it is as if she felt her role, as if she lived it in her own life, that woman is incredible”.

Did you have anything to do with choosing the protagonist?

“I was very respectful and very prudent with the team, I wasn’t on top of it telling them ‘look at this scene they wrote, it’s not like that, look at this other thing, look at that character’, no, I knew I was in the hands of the best and the ones who most wanted it to go well were them. Obviously at first I wanted it to be Danna García, then they told me ‘look, Danna would like to play your role but we can’t because we need Arelys to start in 16 years and Danna is already a big girl and it doesn’t give us for her to be that age’, like Mariana who has an impressive girl’s face and then I understood and when they showed me that it was Mariana I said ‘God knows why she does her things’, she was the perfect one for that” .

How has your life changed with the bionovela?

“I am a person with my feet on the ground, I continue going to the supermarket, leaving normal, I am a person who leads my normal life, I do not put much mystery into anything. I say that fame does not exist, there is affection and public recognition that must be taken care of, that must be nurtured, that must be valued. I value the love of my people very much because I have been preparing for everything I am living for 26 years, so I am enjoying it.”
