Cinema sanitary pass: masks, rules… All you need to know

MOVIE THEATER. Since July 21, 2021, the health pass has been imposed in cinemas. Wearing a mask remains compulsory in most multiplexes.

[Mis à jour le 22 juillet 2021 à 10h57] Since July 21, 2021, the health pass has been compulsory in cinemas in France. To go to the rooms, you must present one of the following documents at the entrance: a certificate on which appears a QR Code attesting that all the phases of the vaccination are completed (more than 7 days from the second injection ), a negative result of a PCR or antigen test less than 48 hours old or a certificate of recovery from Covid-19 dating less than 6 months and more than 15 days. Note that self-tests are not part of the health pass. Offenders risk a fine of 1,500 euros.

The mandatory health pass in cinemas means that the government has decided not to impose the wearing of masks on spectators. But the prefect of the department, or the operator can decide to make it compulsory: most multiplexes have thus decided to keep the obligation to wear a mask inside their establishments, and this, during the entire session and trips. The mask thus remains compulsory in the CGR, announced the CEO of the group, as do the cinemas belonging to the Gaumont Pathé, UGC, Kinépolis or MK2 groups.

The health pass in cinemas, from what age?

For the time being, the obligation of the health pass to go see a film in theaters only concerns adults. The health pass is compulsory at the entrance to the cinemas for people from 12 years old only from August 30, 2021, while MPs voted for a postponement to the end of September. Vaccination having been open to young people aged 12 to 18 only since the end of June, the government has decided to show “flexibility” for adolescents, who have had less time than others to get vaccinated. Children under 12 will not be required to present a health pass at the entrance to cinemas. Find your cinema sessions by clicking on the liin.

all regarding sanitary rules in the cinema

After the first confinement, the rule regarding wearing a mask in cinemas changed several times. From July 21, 2021, wearing a mask will no longer be compulsory but recommended. The reason: spectators must already present a health pass to see films. However, it may be made compulsory by the prefect of the department, the operator or the organisation, at each person’s discretion. Here is the list of cinemas in which wearing a mask remains compulsory:

  • CGR
  • Gaumont Pathe
  • UGC
  • MK2
  • Kinépolis

From July 21, 2021, the health pass, a new health protocol, is necessary to go to the cinemas. Before entering cultural establishments, it is therefore necessary to present either a document proving that the two phases of the vaccination have been validated, or provide a negative PCR or antigen test of less than 48 hours, or prove with the help of a medical certificate that you have contracted the coronavirus and are therefore immune. However, the self-tests do not validate the health pass.
