The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that they are carrying out naval military exercises with the Chinese and Iranian navies in the Gulf of Oman, in order to strengthen cooperation between the three nations.

These exercises are called Maritime Security Belt 2022 (CHIRU-2022) and will be carried out until January 22, the entity said in a statement on Thursday.
“Between January 18 and 22 of this year, in the Gulf of Oman, as well as in the airspace above it, the CHIRU-2022 military naval exercises of Russia, China and Iran are carried out,” the text refers.

In addition, he explained that the exercises include artillery fire once morest maritime targets, joint tactical maneuvers, as well as search and rescue operations at sea.
Participating for Iran are the Marine and Airborne Units of the Navy and the naval force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
The spokesman for these exercises, Rear Admiral Mostafá Tayoddini, stated that the actions will take place in an area of 17,000 square kilometers, adding that this is the third exercise carried out between Iran, China and Russia, following the first one took place in 2019.
“Various tactical maneuvers are planned, including the rescue of a burning ship, the liberation of a hijacked ship, and firing tests once morest targets at sea, day and night,” he said, quoted by IRNA.
Likewise, the official stressed that this action aims to reinforce the commercial security of the area known as the golden triangle, important for international trade.
