The first African-American creative director of “Vogue” died on Tuesday at the age of 73.
André Leon Talley, former creative director and editor-in-chief of American “Vogue”, has died. The fashion icon’s death was first reported by TMZ, the people site announcing that he died in a hospital in White Plains, New York, at the age of 73.
Her disappearance was later confirmed by her literary agent David Vigliano and announced on her Instagram page. The cause of his death has not been revealed.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of André Leon Talley on January 18, 2022 in New York City,” the post read. Mr. Talley was the longtime creative director of the colorful ‘Vogue’ during its rise to prominence as the global fashion bible. Over the past five decades as an international icon, he has been a close confidant of Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, Paloma Picasso, Diane Von Furstenberg, Bethann Hardison, Manolo Blahnik and he loved discovering, nurturing and celebrating the young creators. »

Anna Wintour’s right-hand man
André Leon Talley joined “Vogue” in 1983, quickly becoming the first African-American creative director and editor-in-chief Anna Wintour’s right-hand man. He worked for the fashion magazine until 1995 when he moved to Paris and then worked for ‘W Magazine’. He returned to ‘Vogue’ in 1998 and served as its editor until 2013. Later in his career, he was a judge on the show ‘America’s Next Top Model’ for seasons 14-17 and worked as a stylist for former US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg paid tribute to her on Instagram. “Goodbye André darling… No one saw the world more elegantly and glamorously than you… No one was more moving and grander than you… The world will be less joyful now… I loved you and I laughed with you you for 45 years…I will miss your loud cries and your loyal friendship…I love you so much,” she wrote.
