One of the big highlights of the 2021/22 season is on the Ski World Cup program in Kitzbühel next weekend. The speed men will contest a downhill run on the Streif on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday the traditional slalom takes place on the Ganslernhang. Already on Wednesday and Thursday, the speed pilots can get an idea of what is probably the most spectacular downhill slope in the world during downhill training.
For the speed races, DSV men’s head coach Christian Schwaiger is with them Romed Baumann (WSV Kiefersfelden), Josef Ferstl (SC Hammer eV), Simon Jocher (SC Garmisch), Andreas Sander (SG Ennepetal) and Dominik Schwaiger (WSV Koenigssee) nominated five athletes who go hunting for World Cup points on the Streif.
In the slalom on Sunday on the Ganslernhang Linus Strasser (TSV 1860 Munich), Fabian Himmelsbach (SC Sonthofen), David Ketterer (SSC Schwenningen), Julian Rauchfuss (RG Burig Mindelheim), Alexander Schmidt (SC Fishing), Anton Tremel (SC Rottach-Egern) and possibly another starter following the European Cup races, representing the German colors.
Linus Strasser: “After returning from Wengen, I did fitness training on Monday and Tuesday. From Wednesday we plan to train on snow in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Then Thursday/Saturday we drive to Hinterreit. Then the journey to Kitzbühel takes place, Sunday is race day.
The anticipation of the race is very high. Although I haven’t always found my way to the finish on the Ganslernhang in the past, I really enjoy skiing there. It’s a pity that the race will unfortunately take place without spectators this year.
Immediately following Kitzbühel we continue to Schladming. This is also a cool classic that I’m really looking forward to. I hope the track has benefited from the women’s race and is in top condition.”
