Carlos Vecchio, representative of Juan Guaidó before the White House, referred to the death of a Venezuelan girl in the Rio Grande when she was crossing with her mother, in an attempt to reach the United States.

“We deeply regret the death of this seven-year-old Venezuelan girl crossing the Rio Grande (also called Rio Bravo) on the border between Mexico and the United States with her mother,” Vecchio said.

He reported that the embassy contacted the mother of the deceased girl and is carrying out the pertinent coordination of the case, although he did not give details.

“Thousands of Venezuelans are risking everything, fleeing the disaster generated by the Maduro dictatorship, looking for a better present and future. Over 6 million exiles and counting. To stop this international crisis of Venezuelan migrants, the root of the problem must be put an end to,” he said.

Venezuelan girl died in the Rio Grande

Several Mexican media and journalist Ali Bradley reported this Tuesday the information regarding the drowning of a minor when trying to get from Coahuila to Del Río, Texas.

The little girl was with her parent, but she lost control and let go of the girl’s hand, so the water dragged her. Mexican authorities recovered the body.

Reports differ on the girl’s age. While Bradley assures that he was seven years old, the Mexican press mentions that he was 10.

reactions

The news has generated multiple reactions from Venezuelan political leaders, who point out that the situation in the country has led to more than 6 million people migrating.

“When you hear that Venezuela has been fixed, think of that 7-year-old girl who drowned trying to reach the United States, think of the walkers who have wandered an entire continent or remember the shipwrecked people of Güiria. 6 million people do not flee from a country that was fixed. This was expressed by David Smolansky, OAS commissioner for the Venezuelan migrant and refugee crisis.

“Venezuelan girl drowns in the Rio Grande, while trying to cross into the United States. This hurts deep. And all because of this regime that ruined and destroyed the country, liquidating the hopes and dreams of our compatriots to live with dignity in their own land,” said Andrés Velásquez.
