The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, made an alert call on Tuesday regarding the case of a 22-year-old forest worker killed by a bullet in the back while working this morning inside a property in the Cañete commune.

This, following the approval that the Senate gave on this day to an extension in the validity of the State of Emergency that governs four provinces of the South Macrozone.

“Beyond the drop in violence (…) complex, dramatic, unfortunate situations continue to occur, such as the attacks on these forest estates,” said the head of the portfolio, who emphasized the fact that the crime was committed by just over a dozen hooded men who entered the dead youth’s workplace without prior notice.
Modus operandi
“We are talking here regarding a dozen hooded men who enter a forest property, we are in the middle of an investigation, we are investigating the origin of the task, but they enter and shoot at close range and even, apparently true, in the back with the result of the death of a 22-year-old person,” he detailed.

For Delgado, the bloodshed is similar to others that have occurred previously in the Araucanía region and would be due to a “modus operandi” of armed groups in the area, similar to the one that occurred in July last year in an attack in Carahue.
“Of course we are talking regarding a modus operandi that is complex, the question is to those who ask us to dialogue with that type of person. Are we going to talk with a hooded man who enters a property with heavy caliber weapons, where people are working and shooting at close range? Our response has always been categorical: No, we are not going to talk with them”, Delgado emphasized.
“Whoever occupies the hood and whoever occupies a weapon of war to attack those who are working will never be the focus of dialogue, because they do not believe in dialogue,” added the minister, who reiterated that, to date, 107 people have been detained within the framework of the State of Exception that governs the South Macrozone and that they have links with violent organizations.
