Some 7,000 homes were left without power in southwestern Florida, United States (USA), following a tornado touched down on Sunday, leaving several injured and destroying more than 60 homes.

According to Lee County authorities, at least 28 homes were damaged, another 62 were rendered uninhabitable and some 15,000 people remain without power.
In addition, four people were injured by the passage of the tornado, but no deaths have been reported so far.
Tornado passed over Interstate 75 in the area of the 96 mile marker ( Alley) in Collier County at 9:34am.

In the town of Iona, in the aforementioned county, the deputy chief of the Fire Department, Khalid Aquil, indicated that there was also damage in the area, where several mobile homes were destroyed, while between 150 and 200 people were displaced.
For its part, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported that the tornado had also affected Collier County (south) and Charlotte County.

In Collier, the storms caused a tractor-trailer to overturn on a road, while in Charlotte a recreation center was opened to serve as a shelter for those affected.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the dispatch of a response team to the affected areas to care for affected families.
