Al-Marsad newspaper: The incident of a medical error caused by an ophthalmologist in a private hospital in the Qassim region, following he performed a cataract operation for 6 patients, all of which ended in blindness, still resonates in the Saudi street.
Informed sources confirmed that the doctor holds an Arab nationality, and came to the Qassim region more than 8 years ago to work in a private multi-clinic hospital; Including an eye clinic.
The sources indicated, according to what was published by “Okaz”, that the doctor had earlier limited his work to interviewing patients, diagnosing them initially, taking measurements and preparing them before entering the consultant, and it was decided to stop him and prevent him from practicing the profession.
The sources added that the accused doctor performed the wrong operations at different times, and that the blind patients were of different nationalities, and submitted an official complaint to “Al-Qassim Health”.
For its part, “Al-Qassim Health” said in a press statement that the competent authority received the report and followed up on the matter in a timely manner, and took all legal measures and referred the complaint to the legitimate health authority.
