This is a first for a French international. Lyon midfielder Amel Majri, 28, will become a mother. OL indeed revealed on Friday that its player (66 caps, 11 goals) announced this week her pregnancy to the club management, its staff and teammates.
“The Lyonnaise will continue to be closely monitored by the club’s medical staff to calmly continue her pregnancy and the rehabilitation of her left knee, operated last October following a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament” , specifies the press release.
Amel Majri is indeed recovering from a serious injury to her left knee (rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and the external lateral ligament), suffered on October 1st. Her season ended at that time and her participation in the Women’s Euro, next July, was already seriously compromised before the announcement of her pregnancy.
“A career is made up of ups and downs but as always I will continue to fight and God willing I will come back stronger”, tweeted, just following her injury, the best D1 player in 2016, with 66 team selections from France for 11 goals.
If no current international tricolor had hitherto put his career on hiatus because of a happy event, the Rhone club has already experienced such a situation. Icelandic Sara Björk Gunnarsdottir indeed gave birth to a baby boy two months ago.
