In the last 24 hours, three more people died in Venezuela due to covid-19, with which there are already 5,373 deaths due to the disease caused by the new coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, Delcy Rodríguez reported this Thursday.
In his daily report, through Twitter, Rodríguez indicated that, in the last hours, three Venezuelans died from covid-19 and detailed that two of the deaths occurred in Caracas and one in Zulia.
As for new infections, the official explained that the presidential commission registered, in the last 24 hours, “a total of 1,162 new infections,” of which 1,137 were by community transmission and 25 were imported.
Caracas is where the highest number of local infections is registered with 303, followed by Miranda with 274, Zulia with 105, Yaracuy with 71, Lara with 65, La Guaira with 60, Sucre with 59, Aragua with 54, Monagas with 30 and Anzoátegui with 25.
The states with less than 20 cases are Táchira with 19, Falcón with 16, Carabobo with 15, Trujillo with 13, Bolívar with 9, Portuguesa with 6, Nueva Esparta with 5, Amazonas and Barinas with 3 new cases each, while Apure and Cojedes added a new case in each region.
Of the “international cases”, 13 correspond to travelers who arrived in the country from Panama, 5 from Mexico, 2 from Dominica, 2 from Lebanon, 1 from Spain, 1 from the Dominican Republic and 1 from Colombia.
Thus, Venezuela reached 450,892 cases of covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, although 437,891 patients have already recovered, according to Rodríguez.
Rodríguez recalled that “care and vaccination are essential to continue the open flexibility” that has been maintained in the country since last December.
This Tuesday, Nicolás Maduro assured that the country registers the rate of six cases per 100,000 inhabitants since the arrival of the omicron variant, but that the “open flexibility with intensive care” will be maintained for the time being, that is, a relaxation of the measures that has been in force since November 1.
However, this Wednesday the internist, infectologist and professor at the Central University of Venezuela Julio Castro warned of evidence of “high transmission” of covid-19 in the metropolitan area of Caracas, for which he asked to take extreme precautions in this situation.
The specialist pointed out, through his Twitter account, that many of these cases might be the omicron variant, since numerous infections have been detected in crowded environments, such as parties, meetings or beaches.
