Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, new president of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain

Cayetana Guillén Cuervo is the new president of the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain, upon being elected in the Extraordinary General Assembly of this institution. The actress will be in charge of the Academy for the next four years, replacing the theatrical producer and director of the Mérida Theater Festival Jesús Cimarro in the presidency.

Cayetana Guillén Cuervo begins her presidency today at the head of the third legislature of the Academy following being part of the previous Board of Directors as a member. Guillén Cuervo has a degree in Journalism and Dramatic Art and is part of the famous saga of actors led by her parents Fernando Guillén and Gemma Cuervo, the last Max Honor Award (2021), and her brother Fernando Guillén Cuervo.

Currently Cayetana Guillén Cuervo is on tour with the play ‘Puertas abre’, by Emma Riverola and directed by Abel Folk. In addition, he hosts the cultural programs of la 2 on RTVE ‘Attention Works’ and ‘Spanish Version’, and stars in “The Ministry of Time”, which was broadcast by TVE and is now available on HBO. Guillén Cuervo has participated in a multitude of plays, films and fiction series throughout an extraordinary professional career.

A single candidacy was presented to the elections, the one headed by Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, which was ratified by the Assembly obtaining an absolute majority, without any vote once morest and only with five abstentions. The team of the new Board of Directors is made up of Antonio Resines, Lluis Pasqual, María Pagés, Helena Pimenta, Adriana Ozores, Antonio Najarro, Ana Labordeta, Rudolf Sirera, Eduardo Vasco, Pilar Jurado, Ana Labordeta, Eduardo Galán, César Oliva, Carmen Giménez Morte, María López Insausti, Nicolás Fischtel, Guiomar Fernández Troncoso, Carmen Márquez, Carlos Morán, and María Dolores Vargas-Zúñiga.

A Board of Directors, informs the Academy, that respects equality, ten men and ten women, and that, for the first time, makes it possible for the Academy of Performing Arts to be chaired by a woman (Cayetana Guillén Cuervo). On the other hand, it is a candidacy that tries to decentralize the functioning of the Academy by having representatives from nine different Autonomous Communities and including representatives of all the performing professions integrated into the Academy.

“I consider myself a cultural activist, and I assume this challenge with all the love in the world, with responsibility, with enthusiasm, with humility and with all the gratitude,” said Cayetana Guillén Cuervo during her speech of gratitude to the academics following her election.

The new Board of Directors aspires to continue contributing to the improvement of the performing arts in all its areas with the collaboration of all professionals from different specialties. The Academy will continue its work to promote, defend and dignify the arts in our country, and promote them nationally and internationally.
