VIDEO. GPS, fuel level … The revolutionary windshield of a Toulouse start-up

The Toulouse start-up EyeLights has set itself the task of “eliminating all screens from the car”. To replace them, it has developed a technology for projecting in augmented reality on the windshield. All the information useful to the driver is displayed in his field of vision. Like, the indications of the GPS, of driving assistance systems or a possible danger.

The idea is to gain safety and stop looking at your smartphone to the detriment of the road. With this type of system, the reaction time would be halved. The 550-inch screen projects information up to 50 meters from the driver. They are visible even with sunglasses.

This innovation was first presented to the public at the Las Vegas Tech Show. EyeLights makes its demonstrations aboard a Mercedes (class B) already equipped with the famous windshield. To create it, the start-up has teamed up with AGC, the world leader in automotive glass.

EyeLights has been selling motorcycle helmets with augmented reality screens since 2017. It would like to extend its innovation to any type of vehicle. A first partnership with the Renault group has just been announced. This technology might arrive in our cars within two or three years.
