David Colombo, a 19-year-old German who describes himself as a “computer security specialist” and a “hacker”, claims to have successfully hacked more than 20 Tesla cars in 10 countries.
In a tweet, the young man says he discovered a flaw in the software of the high-end electric car, which would allow him to open doors and windows remotely, but also to remotely start a Tesla without a key and to unplug the security system. David Colombo also says he can see if a driver is behind the wheel, activate the radio and play with the lights, but on the other hand, it is not possible for him to drive remotely, he admitted.
No reaction from Tesla yet
The young computer scientist did not give details on the software flaw, but he specifies that it does not concern Tesla’s infrastructure. A limited number of cars would therefore be affected.
Tesla has yet to respond but there is a platform where security concerns can be reported. The young German says he is in contact with Tesla.
