Filmed by CCTV cameras, the young woman threw her infant locked in a black garbage bag just following giving birth. The child is safe and his mother has been arrested.
It’s a filthy and cruel scene that was captured by surveillance footage on January 7 in New Mexico. We see an 18-year-old woman throwing her infant in the garbage. The latter arrived by car before stopping quietly in front of the trash can, grabbing a black bag in which is her child, and throwing it in the dumpster. She then left behind the wheel of her vehicle, as if nothing had happened.
Our colleagues from Parisian, who spotted the video, specify that the child was then saved, a few hours later, by three passers-by questioned by the infant’s moans.
The baby found in a very weak condition
Hobbs Police say the baby, a little boy, was found “in very weak condition, wrapped in a damp blanket and stained with dried blood, inside a garbage bag that contained other garbage.” He still had his umbilical cord.
The young Alexis Avila was arrested the next day. She “admitted to having thrown her baby, explaining to us to have panicked just following giving birth” details the chief of police of Hobbs.
Up to 15 years in prison for the mother
“She says she had sharp pains in her stomach and gave birth in the toilet at her parents’ house. Panicked, she did not know what to do, or who to call,” he continues.
Her child is now in stable condition in the hospital and in the care of the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth and Families.
The mother was charged with attempted murder and child abuse. She is due to appear in court on Wednesday January 12 and faces up to 15 years in prison.
