Afghanistan: Winter in Afghanistan following the Twenty Years’ War is Hunger
Afghanistan has experienced its first war-free winter since the withdrawal of U.S. troops in August of last year and the occupation of Afghanistan by the Islamic militant group Taliban.
However, Afghanistan is experiencing serious economic difficulties due to international sanctions since the Taliban took power.
While only humanitarian aid is being provided, famine is occurring in various regions, including the capital Kabul. An increasing number of households are using garbage to heat their homes.
The war in Afghanistan was one of the longest wars in modern history. The war between the United States and the Taliban, which began following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, officially ended following 20 years of US military withdrawal in August of last year.
About 71,000 civilians have been killed in this violence over the past 20 years. About 66,000 to 69,000 Afghan soldiers were killed, and more than 3,500 American and NATO allies also lost their lives.
During this period, at least 2.7 million people fled to neighboring countries and other places.
