Mobility platform Bolt announced on Tuesday that it had carried out a new fundraising of 628 million euros (659 million francs), which values the Estonian company at 7.4 billion euros (7.8 billion francs) . It already offers VTC, electric scooters and bicycles, as well as the delivery of meals, and wants to strengthen itself as a “super-app” and main European competitor of Uber, valued at 85 billion dollars (78.5 billion francs) , ten times more than Bolt.

Ambitions in Europe

Bolt will use these new funds in particular to strengthen its new grocery delivery service, Bolt Market. This product, one of the company’s newest, was developed and launched during the Covid-19 pandemic and already operates dozens of stores in ten European countries. With this new investment, Bolt will accelerate its expansion in 2022 and expects to have hundreds of stores operational by the end of the year.

“With this new investment, Bolt will rapidly accelerate its expansion in 2022,” company management said in a statement. The Bolt team raised these funds from investors who had already made a round of funding of 600 million euros in August 2021.

“Less traffic jams”

This funding is “the largest in our history and will help us build a future in which cities have less traffic jams, less pollution and more green spaces where people can easily move in a safe and sustainable manner”, said Markus Villing, the young founder and boss of Bolt. Bolt’s mobility and delivery products are used by 100 million customers in 45 countries and more than 400 cities in Europe and Africa, according to the company.
