PS5: this is what a next-generation Playstation Portable could look like – Nintendo Switch

Remember it 2004, a new chapter in the console war was opening between Nintendo and Sony with the respective outputs of their portable consoles, the NDS and the PSP. After years of undivided reign in the mobile niche, Nintendo suddenly saw its supremacy called into question by SONY, determined to reiterate on portable, its insolent success on the home console market. At the time, moreover, many players and observers were already seeing Nintendo bite the dust with its NDS which seemed not to really match the specificities of the PSP. It is true that the “Playstation Portable“from SONY was aptly named and seemed like a real gamers dream by allowing (already) to play anywhere in games hitherto reserved for home consoles. However once morest all expectations, even if the PSP will meet a great success with nearly 82 million copies sold in the world, it will not succeed in knocking Nintendo off its pedestal, the NDS at the same time flowing to 154.02 million copies. However, encouraged by this first success, SONY will further raise the level by releasing from 2011/2012, the PS Vita, a technology monster which despite its technical specificities will have more difficulty finding its audience and will have to be content on arrival. of “only” 16 million copies sold worldwide ( once morest 75,94 millions for 3DS.)

Following this failure, SONY will abandon the portable console market to Nintendo, which will take the opportunity to launch the Nintendo Switch, a hybrid console that is both portable and home console. A strong concept allowing Nintendo to no longer disperse its resources by developing two parallel catalogs sometimes containing the same games – which became problematic, the portable versions often being downgradées. Today the Nintendo Switch is an incredible success with almost 80 million copies sold in the world in just 4 years and the future looks bright, even if the power of the console appears more and more as a frustrating limit. And while Nintendo will eventually release a new, more powerful Switch model, some can’t help but imagine what the Switch concept would look like if Sony suddenly took an interest in it. The site Yanko Design has just published the images of a mock-up created by Andrea Gallarini and Nicola Pezzotti. Thanks to them, we discover what might give a new generation Playstation Portable necessarily elegant and powerful, being inspired and even merged with the PS5. Ultra-HD OLED display, speakers Surround , buttons and sticks way DualSense, wireless charger and compatibility PlayStation Connect, the designers of this super PSP have thought of every detail, even transforming the console into a PS5 controller, not to say a Wii U-style GamePad.

To tell the truth, given the success of the Nintendo Switch and its positioning, one wonders why SONY has not already embarked on the adventure. Maybe this mock-up will give them some ideas … In the meantime, find some pictures of this PSP New Gen and more on the site Yanko Design. And as always, don’t hesitate to let us know what you think regarding it in the comments.
