Ali Mitgutsch, also known as the “father of hidden objects”, is dead. He died in Munich at the age of 86.
The Munich painter, illustrator and draftsman Ali Mitgutsch (1935-2022) is dead Bavarian broadcasting via Twitter and refers to his son Oliver Mitgutsch. Accordingly, the artist, who was also known as the “father of hidden objects”, died on January 10th at the age of 86 in his Bavarian homeland.
With “All around in my city” the first hidden object book appeared in the German-speaking area in 1968, for which he received the German Youth Book Prize. Numerous other successful works followed. Child psychologist Kurt Seelmann is said to have given him the impetus for the famous search pictures in 1960. For his “unmistakable style of illustration” Mitgutsch was also awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2018, followed a year later by the Upper Bavarian Culture Prize.
