The owners of Tesla electric vehicles from Russia turned to Elon Musk with a request to open an official Tesla representative office in the country. Motorists said they want to have their cars serviced by an authorized dealer who will have a stock of the necessary spare parts. Tesla owners complain that electric car parts now have to be ordered from the United States and take months to arrive.
A video message to Elon Musk was posted on the YouTube channel Go Electro. To shoot it, Tesla owners gathered on January 8 at the Crocus City parking lot in Moscow. The video ends with a light show of 30 electric vehicles from the American manufacturer, including Mosel S, X, Y and 3. The owner of the Go Electro channel Dmitry Sakal said that earlier the community of Russian Tesla owners had already tried to contact the company, but their attempts went unnoticed. Sakal says that the protesters are trying to reach Tesla on all social networks of the company and inundate her e-mail with their letters. They also created a discussion on Reddit.
In May, Elon Musk spoke at the Russian forum “New Knowledge”. Then he said that Tesla might soon enter the Russian market, but this has not happened yet. The businessman said he hopes to open a representative office in Russia and is considering the possibility of building a plant for the production of electric vehicles in the country.
Tesla’s Russian owners hope that following the company’s arrival in the country, buying or repairing electric vehicles will become easier. At the moment, cars of the American manufacturer in Russia can only be purchased through intermediaries such as SberAuto. Tesla owners hope that following the opening of a representative office in Russia, prices for hull insurance will decrease and a network of Supercharger charging stations will begin to develop, which will simplify long-distance travel.
In 2021, sales of electric vehicles in Russia grew fivefold compared to 2020. The most popular electric car in the country remains the Nissan Leaf with a 74% share. Tesla’s share is 11%.
