Hong Kong (CNN) — Cheng Zhao, CEO of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, has joined the list of the world’s richest people following his fortune was estimated to reach $96 billion, according to a report published by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Monday.
Zhao’s estimated fortune is now rivaling that of Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle and surpassing that of Mukesh Ambani, an Indian businessman whose fortune has also risen over the past two years.
After studying computer science at McGill University, Zaw worked on trading software for the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Bloomberg, before launching Binance in 2017, gradually building it into one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world.
In a tweet posted on Monday, Zhao appeared to acknowledge the announcement, writing “Don’t worry regarding the arrangement. Focus on how many people you can help.”
